07 Jul Illusion Walk at Holodeck 4.0
It’s always exciting to see new technologies, but the Holodeck 4.0 of the Fraunhofer IIS in Nürnberg is something special. Not only because the architecture of this science hotspot is fantastic, but also when you hear Dr. Stephan Otto explaining how their technology works against the backdrop of this impressive 1400m² hall. The tracking sensor is small enough to be placed on a samsung gear, which makes the whole system extremely light and user-friendly.
We were able to walk through the Oculus Tuscany scene and latency and precision have been fantastic. But the infrastructure for this result is enormous. Several antennas and a server network with fiber optics lead to an air-conditioned server-room. This is great for large fields or gigantic halls, but we doubt that it will fit into our concept. We’ll stay in touch to see how it develops.
